One of the few people associated with the Guild of the Wolf without elven ancestry, Roald Heftriss is a human tracker and hunter in his mid forties.

Despite having worked with the Wolf Guild for nearly thirty years, he is not a full member due to the guild's eighty year apprenticeship period - a policy some might presume to be an underhand way of excluding humans and other short-lived races from the guild. Heftriss makes no secret of his aim to become the first human to become a full member, which causes some friction within the guild though privately a number of members support him, in particular his half-elven mentor Tranter.

He led the expedition to Black Crag to rid the mountain of a nest of dragon wyrmlings, along with Pebble (a Kenku cleric), Falling Leaf (a Tabaxi warrior) and five adventurers from the valley (Aila, Dramble, Kallista, Newt and Xyrxina).
